In Kerala backwaters, began trials for India’s First Solar Powered Ferry, “ADITYA”. During the full load trials under the supervision of technical committee, IRS and Kerala ports surveyor, the vessel’s maneuvering and endurance was tested.
On November 10th, the vessel was launched into the back waters in Aroor. The vessel commissioning under the supervision of French team and optimsation trials as well as builders trial under full load was done. On November 16th, the technical committee and IRS trials was done under full load. The solar ferry sailed as expected and attained the maximum speed of 7.4 knots at a 90% propulsion power. For attaining cruise speed of 5.5 knots, only 15 kW power was needed. The boat was also tested for various safety requirements of IRS Class including running the boat at cruise speed with one set of propulsion power shut down.
The solar boat, “ADITYA”, will be leaving Aroor in about a week to start extended trials in the operating location of Vaikom – Thavanakadavu route till the delivery and inauguration.
The hand-over ceremonies of the 75-passenger vessel which runs on solar power, will be held in the beginning of next month.
